2021 kän-krēt GRENACHE
100% Grenache Aged in Concrete Tank

2021 kän-krēt GRENACHE

Wine Critic Jeb Dunnuck says, "Tasted out of bottle and all varietal, the 2021 Grenache Kän-kret has a great nose of kirsch liqueur, dried herbs, pepper, and sandalwood that carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, layered style on the palate. It's a Châteauneuf du Pape look-alike that can be drunk with ample pleasure today yet has the structure to benefit from a year or three of bottle age and evolve for a decade." 94 pts

Wine Critic, Brianne Cohn, of Decanter says, “Kän-krēt’ is a phonetic pronunciation for the word ‘concrete’. The intention with ageing in concrete here is to highlight the purity of the Grenache fruit, which this wine achieves on both the nose and the palate with bright red fruit, and specifically notes of cherry. Minerality and spice prevail, as does a freshness throughout due to its marked acidity. This is a wine that could easily be enjoyed now, but it will also reward cellaring,” 93-Points / #10 of Top30 2021 wines from Paso Robles

Wine Critic Owen Bargreen says, "This 2021 edition was aged entirely in concrete tanks and utilizes Grenache clonal selection 362. Deep and concentrated on the palate, this shows Mandarin orange rind flavors that mingle well with ripe strawberry, red currants, and shades of stony soils. Very juicy and delicious, this is already beautifully evolved stuff that will live on for at least another ten years. Drink 2023-2033" 94 pts.

Wine Critic, Eric Guido, of Vinous says, "The 2021 Kän-Krēt Grenache is darkly inviting, opening with a flourish of savory herbs and spice that gives way to dried strawberries. This silky-smooth, nearly opulent in feel, balanced by a salty burst of minerality that gives way to ripe wild berries. The 2021 finishes gently tannic and with admirable length, leaving a chewy concentration of black raspberry to slowly fade. There's so much power and complexity here, but it will take years to reveal its hidden charms." 92-Points

Wine critic Erin Brooks says, "The 2021 Kän-Krēt Grenache, matured for 11 months in concrete and puncheon, is pure and elegant. It has scents of cranberry, raspberry, Earl Grey tea leaves, underbrush and botanical nuances. The medium-bodied palate offers layers of perfumed fruit, spice and earth supported by chalky tannins and bright acidity, and it has a long, nuanced finish. 100 cases were made." - 93

The epitome of Grenache grown in the Paso Robles Willow Creek District was captured perfectly with this wine. The concrete aging vessel this wine was brought up in helps to showcase its pretty side alongside the mineral driven characters. Bright pops of pepper-laden spiced maraschino cherries, pomegranate, and dried rose petals. The palate showcases our chalky, calcareous, limestone soils and finishes with great length and lively acidity. Pair with grilled octopus and chorizo, roasted quail, or your favorite paella.
